Long Beach Chamber Luncheon Highlights Estate Planning, Business Growth, and Long Term Legacy

Protect Your Assets the Right Way: With a Paper Trail

The monthly Good Afternoon Long Beach luncheon brought together local professionals, business owners, and community leaders for an afternoon focused on networking, long term planning, and the realities many businesses face when preparing for the unexpected.

Hosted by the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, the event featured speaker Bijan Roboubi of Kaiser Law Group, who spoke about estate planning, business continuity, and why many families and businesses run into problems simply because they wait too long to prepare.

The luncheon also highlighted milestone anniversaries from several longtime Chamber members, reinforcing the Chamber’s continued focus on supporting business relationships and professional growth throughout Long Beach.

Estate Planning Is More Than Paperwork

During his presentation, Roboubi challenged the common belief that simply signing legal documents is enough to protect a family or business.

“Documents alone are not enough,” he told the audience while explaining how trusts, beneficiary designations, and business structures must all work together properly.

Rather than framing estate planning as something only for retirement or end of life situations, Roboubi focused heavily on business continuity and decision making during emergencies.

He encouraged business owners to think practically:

  • Who processes payroll if the owner suddenly becomes incapacitated?
  • Who can access accounts or sign checks?
  • Who steps in to make decisions?
  • Are beneficiaries and business documents actually updated?

The conversation resonated with many of the entrepreneurs and professionals in attendance because it connected legal planning directly to everyday business operations.

Why Small Businesses Can Be Vulnerable

One of the strongest takeaways from the luncheon was how vulnerable small businesses can become when too much responsibility is centered around one person.

Roboubi explained that many businesses operate smoothly while the owner is present, but problems begin quickly when there is no succession plan or updated estate structure in place.

He also warned attendees that outdated beneficiary designations and improperly titled assets are among the most common mistakes attorneys encounter.

In one example, he described situations where retirement accounts still listed former spouses as beneficiaries years after divorces had already occurred.

The discussion shifted beyond legal terminology and into real world consequences that many business owners in the room could immediately understand.

Family Conflict Can Happen Faster Than People Think

One of the most memorable moments came when Roboubi shared a story involving a multi million dollar estate where family members ended up fighting over ordinary household furniture.

According to Roboubi, the emotional conflict surrounding the furniture ultimately cost more in legal fees than the items themselves.

The example reinforced a major theme throughout the presentation: estate planning is not only about money. It is also about reducing confusion, protecting relationships, and creating clarity during emotionally difficult moments.

He encouraged attendees to regularly revisit their plans as laws, businesses, assets, and family situations evolve over time.

Chamber Luncheon Continues Community Focused Tradition

Before the presentation, the Chamber recognized several milestone member anniversaries, including:

  • Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles
  • WTC Workspaces
  • Sinorama Long Beach
  • Enterprise
  • Catalina Express

The room carried the same relationship oriented atmosphere often seen at Chamber networking events, with attendees exchanging introductions, discussing their businesses, and participating in quick elevator pitches following the luncheon.

Sponsor Sunrise Integration also briefly discussed how businesses are increasingly trying to understand artificial intelligence and e commerce tools, adding another layer to the broader conversation about long term business adaptation and growth.

Be Part of the Experience

Every month the Chamber brings a member to the front of the room to share their expertise and offer something useful to the community. It is education in the simplest form. One person teaching another. One business helping the next.

From luncheons to mixers, from the Women’s Business Council to the International Business Association, you will find rooms filled with people who want to see you succeed. People who remember your name. People who become part of your circle as you build the business you want for the years ahead.
